What is (and is not) hypnosis?

Hypnosis is not: Sleep Hypnosis is not sleep. That was the initial impression and unfortunate conclusion by James Braid, who was searching for another name for the phenomena to differentiate it and dis-associate it from Anton Mesmer and “mesmerism”. The Amazing Response to “The Secret”

Although I shouldn’t be, I find myself blown away by the response to the book and film The Secret. It seems that so many people are talking about it. People that ordinarily would not think to look twice at something like this.
